Title Description
Fall Color Fall is passing us by a tremendous speed. Using a polarizing filter is a great way to cut through the glare on the surface of leaves and intensify and saturate the colors within the leaves. With the polarizing filter on your lens and your shot framed, turn the movable portion of the filter in the direction that the filter screws onto the lens. You don't want to accidentally unscrew the filter from the lens. Watch the saturation of the colors of the leaves as you turn the filter (in a counter clockwise direction when viewed from behind the camera). At some point the colors will saturate as the glare off the surface of the leaves is reduced to a minimum. Make certain that your metering is where you want it and take the shot. Be careful that the red channel of the RGB histogram doesn't clip or overexpose. There is a lot of red in red, orange and yellow leaves. Clipping the red channel will eliminated the details in those portions of the shot that are overexposed. It will appear as if someone painted those areas with toothpaste - no details and a weird blotchy appearance.
Summer Flowers Summer has many wildflowers that come into bloom during July and August. It can be challenging to find these and to make pleasing compositions. We hope that you are successful in your summertime endeavors.
Sping is Here! Frogs, toads and salamander are mating and singing. Photo opportunities abound. We hope that you are out there with camera and tripod in hand.
